This tipical house has been sold to a young german couple for their holidays and week-ends. The structure is typical of the Abruzzo region with an underlying stable and the first floor of two small rooms. There was a ruin which consisted only of stone fondations.
This young couple fell in love with the landscapes, culture and medieval architecture of the Abruzzo region. With our advice,they decided to begin the restoration of the entire property using skilled craftsmen and local builders.
The project was achieved using old materials, respecting the medieval architecture and using modern environmentally sustainable methods:
-Rebuilding of the ruin up to nowadays standard covered with viewed stones.
-Wood roof insulated with 5cm of cork and covered with old restored tiles.
-Plastering with bio-insulation and lime.
-Low temperature underfloor-heating system which allows the best thermical efficiency (water heated from 30 to 45°C rather than 55 to 70°C for a normal system with radiators), uniform and healthy heating for all the rooms, therefore eliminating the hassle of traditional radiators on the walls, and finally using a "condensation" boiler which also allows to save energy.
-All floors are insulated with a layel of cork
-Flooring with old tiles 21X21cm of « terra cotta » typically from Abruzzo.
